What happens if a gas line is on our way of digging? How do i know how deep its buried? Yellow line is kinda 18 inches on my drawing. Are the Yellow lines are accurate? I am in Ontario, Canada
Hi, price?
Contact your local Radiodetection dealer for exact pricing. You can consult our website for estimated pricing. www.subsurfacesolutions.com/product-page/rd8200sg-locator-kit
Any business in south central Pennsylvania do this?
Your local dealer is Eastcom & Associates. They should be able to help.
Hi, what is the best frequency for locating Fibre optics and coaxial cable for rogers? Thanks. Hope you notice this.
Any lower frequency. 512Hz is used a lot for fiber. Just make sure the other end is grounded.
512Hz if the far end is grounded. However, if you're around underground power lines you may want to move it a little higher to avoid interference.
Please can I use this detector to locate illegal pipe connections on a distribution pipe network. Thank you
The regular RD7200 or RD8200 may work as long as the pipe has continuity. Not plastic.
I need license key for EKKO_project? can you help me?
Get ahold of Sensors & Software. They can help.
How well does this work in rural areas?
You will need a cellular connection to obtain an accuracy better than a couple inches. Otherwise the SG receiver would be at best about 18 inches in an optimal situation.
How well does this work in rural areas ?
Does this work on a street or sidewalk?
Yes. There is a hard surface microphone that looks like an elephant foot with the kit.
It's a pity this doesn't include the marker ball locator as well, otherwise it'd be the perfect all-in-one solution.
Agreed. I'm sure it will be in the near future. However, if you can map within an inch and re-locate that point within an inch would you need to use a marker ball?
Tracer wires do not need to be bonded on either end to perform locates. You do however need to close that signal with your own ground.
Agreed, but grounding the far end gives it an 'off ramp' to direct it what way to go.
Rtk pro from Vivax is way better
I'm assuming you haven't tried the SG yet. If so, can you give us some insight?
Can you guys make a video showing how to locate with the 8100 inside of a house looking for waterlines
That's a good idea. I'll add that to my list.
Make a video on RD 8100
We will be doing one on the RD8200 soon.
Good product, great customer service, would highly recommend.
Thank you!
just curious, what is the average offset of this GIS system?? is it more than a meter??
Do you mean the GPS precision? It showed one of the points as being 0.5ft at 1:13 into the video.
When you say 'offset' are you referring to Datum shift? If so, our app automatically adjusts for this. If you are referring to accuracy, then the SG will get down to under an inch 99% of the time. Just depends how far away you are from the base station you are using for corrections and your current view of the sky.
That's a good catch. I should've picked a different point to show. I'm assuming the user started at the house and was working towards the street. If they would've started at the street with a better view of the sky they would have had a better result at that point.
I was just offered a job with a large company as a Locate Technician. I’ve read great things about the job and a lot of negative things. Do you guys have a video discussing the industry and the keys to making it a good experience. Thank you for all of the training videos! I will be very prepared before day 1!
Good problem solvers make good locators. Your pre-job curiosity tells me you won't be afraid of searching for answers, better ways to tackle the locate. Give us a call if you need anything. SubsurfaceSolutions.com
@@SubsurfaceSolutions wow! Thank you for responding and I certainly will! It seems that the consensus is that the job is what you make of it no matter where you are working. Awesome guys! Thank you!
Hahahaha love the commentary on this video, very funny, nice work guys.
Does it detects gold and gems?
No, but you'll find lots of copper, steel & cast iron
Are y'all planning on putting out any more videos?
Absolutely
Vivax is killing it with the Vloc Pro 3 RTK. Way easier than this, nothing has to be attached to the receiver, points instantly sent to the cloud as you locate. RD is WAY behind the curve on mapping.
You haven't seen the 8200SG. With its advanced multipath rejection. It doesn't float like the Vivax, it doesn't require a subscription and has a built-in phone holder. But I still like the removable GPS for mapping above ground features and in times you need better reception
Is it possible to detect rock on the ground with this equipament?
You'll need a GPR for that. Check out the GPR's from Sensors & Software.
Did you do a follow up video to show the leak was confirmed? If so would you post it thanks
Sorry we didn't stick around at the job site, but we did get confirmation from the crew the location was correct.
how to restore RD7000 rediodetection
Get a hold of your local sales office. They should be able to get you parts or fix
This is the best utility locating video I have seen. Please keep up the good work! Could you do one with a subsite?
Water Witch or Dowsing is free and works great.
It would have been interesting if you would have done some pvc locating . Something like a cable can be done with a regular utility locator at a fraction of the cost
Thanks. Good suggestion.
I'm from jordan And now I live in va usa Can this device be used to search for gold chests? There are completely rocky areas. Does it give correct readings in these conditions?
it may help. Contact your dealer Eastcom & Associates
Appreciate your effort. The video is very informative. Thank You.
I slipped and completely ate dirt during a locate in freezing rain last year and I watched my RD7100 slide down the road. One truck just drove by like nothing happened (I know that they saw me but just didn’t care). We were both fine in the end; I would never intentionally hurt my favourite tool/toy. I had an earlier version that had a cylindrical rocker that I loved too. That poor soul died in the rain and was too obsolete to replace.
I love stories like this. Once a month I visit Subsurface View Senior Living for RD locators just to listen to the war stories from the days of witching sticks. They don't make 'em like that anymore. ...thank goodness
Could radio detection be used indoors for slab on grade projects?
Yes, no problem
@@travisberan7010 the rebars, wire mesh and all electrical from above wouldn’t cause it to bleed off?
Nothing above will affect a RD unit. Electrical below may be a problem. Every utility inside a building is normally bonded to each other and the building, which causes you to light it all up. Isolating and getting a good ground is key, but inside a building that hard. We may shoot a video soon on this.
how to detect a damaged cable that has a gap between the core without shorting to ground? It is very miles difficult to find the accident in this case.
If this is a electrical primary you can use a thumper. If this is any other type of cable you can possibly use a TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer).
How are you locating the pipe if it’s PVC?
My thoughts exactly. If tracer wire, depth would be inaccurate.
Tracer wire. And correct the depth is to the tracer wire, not the pipe.
I tried using an RD8100 for the first time yesterday to find a fault. I thought I could turn it in and just figure it out. Definitely not, ended up giving up. Then I watched a few of your videos for locating and found the fault no problems today. Great videos, thanks!
Awesomesauce!
Sorry, but I am a bit confused by this... it looks like you're initially using the locator on its own to locate the cable, and you note that there is a sudden increase in depth, which is where you marked on the ground with red paint (my understanding is this sudden increase in depth is where the fault is). You then switched to the A-frame and found something else further along (also marked with red paint). Then at the end of the video you came back to the original red paint marker (where the change in depth was noticed) and said that was where you need to dig. I don't understand what the second marker (made with the A-frame) was for... and why you'd even need the A-frame if the locator can detect the fault (by looking at the change in depth). Could you please explain these two points? Thank you.
Faults create a distorted magnetic field that will give escalated depth readings, which is your first indication there is a problem nearby but doesn't pinpoint the location as well as the A-frame. There were two faults on this line but the first location was worse judging by the higher decibel reading and should be investigated (daylighted) first.
Im having an anxiety attack i dont wanna go to jail due to my responsibilty. Im qutting on my 2nd day
Line locating isn't easy. The responsibility of protecting the underground utilities is heavy. Good line locators usually are: 1. Confident Self-starter - much of the time working solo, in diverse locations, able to take initiative and assume responsibility. 2. Technical - sophisticated electronic equipment when locating utilities 3. Personable - skills to be able to deal with wide variety of personalities 4. Attention to Detail - understand reports, utility plans, and documentation visual inspections prior to locating and marking 5. Spatial Awareness - organized knowledge of objects in relation to oneself in that given space 6. Teachable - Staying humble and recognize that there is always something to learn 7. Problem-solver - identify problems quickly and find the best solution to a problem 8. Entrepreneurial - not afraid to get your hands dirty and take pride in your work 9. Realistic - You need to be realistic in assessing you own abilities - you are not superman; you do not have x-ray vision and you can't bend the bars of a jail.
Where do you purchase one of those locators
I might know a guy, who knows a guy. SubsurfaceSolutions.com
frankly speaking: expensive toys, not easy to mess with.
Is the 3/16 suitable for 4" sewer lines?
I have the same question
It will work for a short distance. Not recommended because this flexible of a rod will start to bunch up on you. Multiple turns in the pipe creates friction and resistance. You'll want a 5/16 Duct Hunter. There is a good chart on our website page www.subsurfacesolutions.com/product-page/duct-hunter-traceable-rodders
Great information, but this unit is such of big mess. Not for beginners
Is there sny option for locate non metalic cable
What cable doesn't have metal? Are you referring to dielectric fiber?
It can detect Copper or silver?
You'll find lots of copper, steel & cast iron
How to locate a cable from multiple cable location
Can you expand on this?
Impresive. How I can get this fancy mount?
www.subsurfacesolutions.com/product-page/gps-holder-for-radiodetection
I’m confused about the clamp. Every time I use it I get no signal at all! I’ve been told by everyone it just clamps on and works.
Use it in 8kHz or higher. You should be able to hear a high pitched squeal in 8kHz when transmitting. Make sure the transmitter shows a ring clamp icon. If you don't see the ring icon when it's plugged in you could have a faulty connection socket. If you have the icon, don't hear a high pitch tone in 8kHz you could have a faulty ring clamp and it need to be sent in for repair. Maybe you know another locator tech and you can compare.
Quit talking, show how to use the damn thing. That’s the point of video.
Like riding a bike?
How would you take this information and create a report? Is there software that does this? What made you choose this brand over the others.
We have a leak in a ~40 PSI poly pipe system at a depth of ~6 feet, in gravel. Can you confirm that this unit should be capable of detecting this leak? Can you tell me an estimate of the depth of pipe you're detecting in this video (and any other info you might have such as pipe material, PSI)? I see snow on the ground so it must be fairly deep.
